What it is not

Whop is not a merchant of record. It processes in your name and sells a 2% managed tax service that calculates, collects and — in the US, EU and UK — remits, but the tax liability stays with you. Paddle, Lemon Squeezy and Gumroad take that liability; Stripe sells it as Managed Payments at +3.5%. What the difference means.

Whop Payments vs the processor you have

Against Stripe the headline rate is 0.2 points lower and the commerce layer — storefront, access control, subscriptions UI, affiliates — is included rather than built. Against PayPal it is materially cheaper on every card transaction. The full comparisons: vs Stripe, vs PayPal, vs Paddle.

Who it is for

Businesses selling digital access — communities, courses, software, alerts — that would otherwise stitch a processor to a gating tool. Whop lists Polymarket, Kalshi, Cal.com and Replit among its network customers and states that sellers earned $300M+ in the last month across 27,000+ businesses.
