Migrating from Stripe to Whop
Stripe is a processor; Whop is a commerce platform with processing inside it. Moving from Stripe means replacing your checkout, subscription logic and customer portal with Whop's, in exchange for a 0.2-point lower card rate, built-in access delivery and affiliate payouts. It is worth it for access-based businesses and rarely worth it for a software company with a mature Stripe integration.
Verdict: Depends — read on
What moves
- Products and prices — recreated in Whop; there is no importer.
- Customer records — export from Stripe as CSV for your own use; Whop creates customers as they buy.
- Saved cards — Stripe supports exporting card data to another PCI-compliant processor on request. Whether Whop will accept a PAN import is not documented publicly; ask Whop's sales team before you plan a silent migration.
- Webhooks and integrations — Whop has an API and webhooks; anything built on Stripe events is rewritten.
What breaks
- Active subscriptions. They are tied to Stripe; every subscriber re-subscribes on Whop.
- Stripe Billing features you rely on: proration, metered usage, invoices with net terms. Whop's billing is subscription-plan based.
- Stripe Tax registrations and filings, if you used them. Whop's managed tax service (2%) replaces the calculation and, in the US/EU/UK, remittance.
- Connect platforms. If you are a marketplace paying out to sellers on Stripe Connect, Whop's payouts product is the equivalent, but the model is different.
What you lose
Elements, Connect, Issuing, Terminal, Radar rules, Sigma and the integration ecosystem. Cheaper ACH (0.8% vs 1.5%) and instant payouts (1.5% vs 4% + $1).
What you gain
Hosted storefront and checkout, Discord/course/file delivery, subscriber portal, affiliates with automatic payouts, marketplace listing, payment orchestration across providers (0.8%), 100+ local payment methods surfaced at checkout, 2.7% + $0.30 base.
What it costs, by monthly volume
Published domestic rates, computed at the stated average order size. Stripe: 2.9% + 30c domestic cards; +1.5% intl; +1% FX; ACH 0.8% ($5 cap); disputes $15; Billing 0.7%; Tax 0.5%; Radar from $0.05; instant payouts 1.5%. Whop: 2.7% + $0.30 base; the second Whop row adds the optional 2% managed tax service as if every sale were taxed, which is the upper bound.

When to move, when to stay
Move if your product is access (community, course, alerts, software licence) and you are maintaining a bot or portal around Stripe. Stay if you are a SaaS with usage billing, invoicing or a Connect marketplace.
How to run the migration
- Open a Whop account and complete business verification before anything else; payout holds on a new account are the most common migration complaint.
- Recreate products at identical prices. Decide on tax: self-managed, Whop calculates/collects, or Whop collects and remits.
- Ask Whop's sales team about volume pricing and, if you are on Stripe, about card-data import.
- Announce a switch date; offer a bridging discount or extended access so subscribers re-consent willingly.
- Run both processors for one billing cycle. Close new sign-ups on Stripe, then cancel remaining subscriptions there as they renew on Whop.
- Keep the Stripe account open for refunds and disputes for at least 120 days.
The generic sequence, with timing, is on the migration checklist.
