Migrating from Patreon to Whop
Patreon takes 10% of income plus payment processing, currency conversion and payout fees, none of which its pricing page quantifies. Whop takes 2.7% + $0.30 all-in on domestic cards. The saving is at least 7 points. The cost is your patrons: they must re-subscribe, and Patreon's app, posts and fan framing do not exist on Whop.
Verdict: Depends — read on
What moves
- Tiers and benefits — recreated as Whop products.
- Posts archive — export and re-host as a Whop course or files.
- Patron list — export from Patreon; email them.
What breaks
- Every patron's subscription. Expect a share not to re-subscribe; plan a bridging offer.
- Discord role sync — Whop does this natively, so it is replaced rather than lost.
- Patreon's post feed and app experience.
What you lose
Patreon's creator-fan framing, discovery, and the app patrons already have installed.
What you gain
At least 7 points per sale, Discord/course/file delivery, tiers with trials and annual plans, affiliates, payouts on demand.
What it costs, by monthly volume
Published domestic rates, computed at the stated average order size. Patreon: 10% of income, plus payment processing, currency conversion and payout fees. Whop: 2.7% + $0.30 base; the second Whop row adds the optional 2% managed tax service as if every sale were taxed, which is the upper bound.

When to move, when to stay
Move if you sell access (Discord, alerts, courses) and your audience follows you. Stay if patrons support you rather than buy from you.
How to run the migration
- Open a Whop account and complete business verification before anything else; payout holds on a new account are the most common migration complaint.
- Recreate products at identical prices. Decide on tax: self-managed, Whop calculates/collects, or Whop collects and remits.
- Ask Whop's sales team about volume pricing and, if you are on Stripe, about card-data import.
- Announce a switch date; offer a bridging discount or extended access so subscribers re-consent willingly.
- Run both processors for one billing cycle. Close new sign-ups on Patreon, then cancel remaining subscriptions there as they renew on Whop.
- Keep the Patreon account open for refunds and disputes for at least 120 days.
The generic sequence, with timing, is on the migration checklist.
